"If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is: infinite. For man has closed himself up, till he sees all things thro' narrow chinks of his cavern" — William Blake

Blake’s prophetic statement resonates strongly for us. Blinkered by a perverse combination of material comfort, everyday fear, and an excess of information, we have become incapable of acting on the intuitive understanding that things can be other than they are, and on the rational knowledge that things must be other than they are if we are to survive as a species. We sense that art, understood as a tool for deepening the experience of inner and outer worlds, has a role to play in awakening us to the ecological mesh we’re tangled in and enabling us to find a home in it.

Now Future is a partnership between Sophie Jerram and Dugal McKinnon founded to instigate and realise arts-led projects that address key issues in sustainability and ecology, and to provide a platform for upgrading consciousness towards a more reciprocal relationship between humanity and environment.

We welcome approaches of partnership from individuals, groups and organisations towards projects that embrace these ideas.
